Simon Black, General Manager
Simon brings over 18 years experience in the wine industry to North East Valleys Wine Group.
Trained in the field of winemaking, Simon graduated from Charles Sturt University before going on to gain extensive winemaking experience in the Northern Hemisphere. Australian wine Regions include Bannockburn, Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Heathcote, King Valley, Hunter Valley, Rutherglen and the Victorian Alpine district.
In 1997, he project managed the building of the Willow Creek Vineyard winery on the Mornington Peninsula and later, in 2002, played an instrumental role in establishing Heathcote Estate as their inaugural winemaker.
Most recently he worked as Chief Winemaker at Clyde Park Vineyard, Bannockburn where his wines featured in James Halliday’s Top 100 for 3 consecutive years.
In his passion and quest for knowledge, he has worked in France as guest Winemaker with Meo Camuzet in 2003 and again at the esteemed Domaine de l’Arlot in 2006. He has also worked in California in both 2001 and 2005 and as far reaching as Moldova.
Simon’s various winemaking positions have given him an invaluable understanding of all aspects of the wine industry including viticulture and marketing, whilst nurturing extensive relationships with wine industry personnel.
